The (JAMB) has issued a strong warning to candidates registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) against providing false information during registration.
According to a report by , the warning was given as the 2026 UTME registration exercise continued nationwide.
Why the Warning Was Issued
JAMB emphasized that all candidates must provide accurate personal and academic information during registration. The Board introduced an attestation clause which candidates must sign, confirming that all information submitted is true and correct.
The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, explained that the attestation serves as a formal declaration and verification mechanism to ensure transparency and integrity in the registration process.

Consequences of Providing False Information
JAMB warned that candidates who submit false information risk serious penalties, including:
- Being barred from writing the UTME for up to three years
- Publication of their names in national newspapers
- Reporting of their cases to other examination bodies
- Possible prosecution by relevant law enforcement agencies such as the ICPC, EFCC, or the Nigeria Police
The Board stressed that providing incorrect details could lead to forfeiture of admission, even if discovered after admission has been granted.
JAMB’s Position
JAMB reiterated its commitment to maintaining the credibility of the UTME and ensuring fairness in Nigeria’s admission process. Candidates are strongly advised to double-check all information before submission and register only at accredited CBT centres.
